Haskel said that she would consider alliances with those who see themselves as able to be part of a broad Zionist government and would be willing to sit in a government with Netanyahu.

Haskel signed the affidavit weeks after the High Court of Justice invalidated Rabello’s election and ordered a new vote because the filming of ballots had violated the secrecy of the election.

Haskel explained that a broad Zionist government would put “the state ahead of sectoral interests.”

This makes Belgium the fourth European country with an import ban on Israeli settlements. Spain was first in September 2025, followed by the Netherlands and then Ireland. 

The announcement came one day after Haskel resigned from her position as deputy foreign minister over the passing of controversial legislation that froze the arrests of haredi draft evaders.

Buskila’s potential appointment comes one day after previous deputy foreign minister Sharren Haskel announced that she was resigning from the government.

Haskel, a member of the New Hope party, heavily opposed the bills aiming to stop the arrest of draft dodgers and to allow haredim to not be drafted into the IDF.

Sharren Haskel told The Jerusalem Post that Israel has lost a voice it cannot substitute. Her warning went considerably further than that.

Explaining why she has voted against the legislation, Haskel said in her interview with the Post that, “we are at war, and when we have a pyramid of priorities, security always has to be on the top."

Haskel told The Jerusalem Post that over the weekend, “phone calls were made to almost all coalition members in order to check their positions and pressure them to vote on the conscription law.”
