The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has put the death toll at 143 in the bombing of a Kabul drug rehab centre by Pakistan, an official told Reuters on Wednesday.

The Afghan Taliban government says at least 400 people were killed and 250 injured in the Monday night attack, but Islamabad denied having targeted any such facility.

Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in a post on social media platform X that Pakistan had targeted "military installations" and "terrorist support infrastructure" in Kabul.

Following Beijing's stepped up mediation efforts, no Pakistani air strikes were reported by either side in over a week until the bombing in Kandahar.

According to the media wing of the Pakistan Army, “both leaders discussed the seriousness of the security situation arising from Iranian drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia."
