I last communicated with Graham just a few days before I received the message on Sunday morning that he had died. It took me a while to process that message.

As an advocate for legislation sanctioning Russia and military assistance in Ukraine, the loss of US Senator Lindsey Graham raises questions about how the Trump administration will act going forward.

Graham, one of Trump's closest allies in the Senate, died over the weekend after a brief illness.

Graham died Saturday, aged 71, following what his office described as a “brief and sudden illness.” His office did not immediately disclose an official cause of death.  

Without question, he was one of the greatest friends the Jewish people have ever had in the United States Senate. He also understood that the Islamic Republic is the enemy, not the Persian people.

Graham sought to reassure Israelis that support for their country remained deeply embedded in Congress. “Quite frankly, Congress has Israel’s back," he said.

"As much as it frustrates me, this process takes time... And on the advice of my doctors, I won’t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet," said US Senator Mitch McConnell.

According to Axios, the late US Senator Lindsey Graham thought that Israel-Saudi normalization could be the "big prize" product of the war with Iran.
