Iran's skepticism is one of the reasons US VP Vance has now become involved in the negotiations. Washington has sought to reassure Tehran that “this is not a ploy, but real negotiations."

A source told The Jerusalem Post that Iranian Parliament speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf has been leading the talks with the US.

Vance's comments appeared to be an effort to counter questions about whether his well-known anti-war and isolationist views put him at odds with Trump.

Vice President JD Vance praised Tucker Carlson’s interview with Mike Huckabee, declining to criticize Carlson despite antisemitism allegations and rising concern among Jewish conservatives.

The briefing came while the Trump administration's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner were in Geneva holding nuclear talks with Iran.

The talks are expected to determine whether there is still a path to an agreement between Tehran and Washington, or whether the likelihood of a US military strike will rise significantly.

“The first phase is that we are depriving Hamas of one of its most important means: the tunnels," Duhine told N12 News.

"If Iran gets a nuclear weapon, there are a lot of other regimes, some friendly, some not so friendly, who would get nuclear weapons after them," Vance said.
