Palestinian Authority security personnel opened fire on an Israeli civilian who accidentally entered Area A by Nablus, in the West Bank, the military stated on Monday.
No injuries were reported, and forces were sent to the scene to secure the area.
“While making a U-turn to return to the main road, he noticed three terrorists near the checkpoint at the entrance to Nablus. One of them jumped at the vehicle and fired a gun at him,” Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan said.
The motorist managed to escape the scene without injury and, upon arriving at Mount Ebal, discovered damage to the car's hood.
Coordination channels between Israeli and Palestinian security bodies were activated immediately to clarify the circumstances, the IDF added.
The liaison teams engaged to investigate the incident and prevent escalation, according to the statement.
The army reiterated that entry by Israelis into Area A is prohibited and dangerous, urging the public to avoid Palestinian Authority cities without authorization or coordination.
