As Samsung prepares to launch the Galaxy S26 series soon, the focus of interest in the market is beginning to shift toward the next generation of foldables. Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8, which are expected to be unveiled in the summer, it appears that the company is also working on an additional model – wider – that could expand its foldable lineup as early as this year. According to the latest reports, the name being discussed for the device is Galaxy Z Wide Fold.

According to a report by Android Authority, early test versions of One UI 9 contained references to a device with the code name H8. Beyond the name itself, system animations were also found showing the device in light and dark modes. The animations provide a glimpse of the foldable’s overall shape and reinforce the assessment that it is a book-style model, but with wider proportions than the familiar Galaxy Z Fold – which aligns with the unofficial name currently circulating online.

The rear camera array does not appear in the animations, so it is not possible to determine whether Samsung is planning a significant change in this area. However, at this stage there is no indication of a substantial deviation from the design language of the existing series. Additional support for the credibility of the information comes from the names of the animation files themselves, which include a direct reference to H8 – a detail that links the current leak to previous reports about the model’s development.

The references were found within One UI 9 based on Android 17, alongside test versions intended for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Z Flip 8 as well. The very inclusion of the model in the system code strengthens the assessment that Samsung plans to launch another book-style foldable this year, rather than settling for just one model.

Previous reports indicate that the specifications are expected to include a 5.4-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal display. These dimensions resemble those attributed to a foldable iPhone that Apple is reportedly developing, with a 7.58-inch internal display. If Samsung indeed launches the Galaxy Z Wide Fold in July 2026, together with the Fold 8 and the Flip 8, it may enjoy a period of relative exclusivity in the wide format, since according to estimates Apple’s device is expected to arrive only in the fall.

At this time there are no details regarding pricing or precise positioning within the product line. The central question is whether the Galaxy Z Wide Fold will function as an alternative to the standard Fold 8 or as an additional premium product above it. Either way, the very existence of such a model indicates a clear intention by Samsung to expand its offerings in the foldable category – just before competition from Apple is expected to intensify.
