Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed on Wednesday that Israel had warned Britain about an upcoming Iranian-sponsored terror attack ahead of the recent suspected plot against a Royal Air Force (RAF) airbase, during an interview with Fox News.
"Pretty much the next day they slapped sanctions on us," Netanyahu recalled. "The collapse before the Islamist-Marxist alliance is very dangerous for the future of the West."
Netanyahu also discussed the recent attempted hijacking of a flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, praising the heroism of Yaniv Hayoun in "preventing another 9/11."
"I asked him, you know, just how do you do it?" Netanyahu said. "And he said, well, I just had to do it."
Hayoun, according to Netanyahu, had rushed to the cockpit after the captain had managed to open the door. He saw the attacker, pulled him away from the controls, and pulled back on the stick to level out the plane.
Netanyahu also said that there was no evidence as of yet on whether Iran was involved in the flydubai attack.
UK says that Iran likely to have been involved in plot against RAF airbase
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Wednesday that the UK has "strong indications" that Iran was involved in a suspected plot against a Royal Air Force (RAF) airbase used by US forces to strike Iran.
In an incident that triggered a huge police response, raised alarm among Western allies, and remains largely unexplained, five British men in their 20s were arrested on Sunday on suspected terrorism and explosive offenses near RAF Fairford in western England.
The five, all of whom live in London, were later released on bail.
