Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the president of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed, on Sunday morning, N12 initially reported.
A diplomatic source later corroborated this to The Jerusalem Post.
The prime minister flew to the Emirates on a private flight and met MbZ, with the Prime Minister's Office refusing to comment on the details of the meeting, according to N12.
Netanyahu flew to Abu Dhabi on a private executive jet, the same one he used to visit the UAE during the Iran war earlier this year, the Post learned.
Netanyahu took off from Ben-Gurion Airport shortly after 12:00 p.m. and landed in Abu Dhabi at 3:10 p.m. After spending four hours in the UAE, the plane took off for the return flight to Israel at 7:10 p.m., the Post learned.
Visit comes amid controversy over reported previous meeting
The visit comes after Haaretz this month reported that MBZ had warned Netanyahu a week and a half before October 7, 2023, that Hamas was planning a major operation against Israel. The warning was not passed to Israeli intelligence agencies or the military, Haaretz reported.
The UAE has declined to comment on the Haaretz report but has said that the UAE and Israel have maintained "open and direct lines of communication" since establishing diplomatic relations in 2020. A UAE source previously told Reuters that the UAE discusses security matters with countries through the "relevant entities," but not "at the level of national leaders."
Earlier this year, the UAE denied that MBZ met with Netanyahu after the Israeli prime minister's office said in May that Netanyahu had "secretly visited" the Gulf country and met with the president.
