President Isaac Herzog spoke with the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, on Sunday, calling the country an "important partner in shaping the future of the Middle East" in a post on X/Twitter.
"We discussed strengthening the friendship and the growing relations between Israel and Bahrain, as well as the importance of the Abraham Accords, led by the United States, in enhancing security, stability, and prosperity across the entire Middle East," said Herzog. "We also talked about the latest developments and the importance of cooperation and dialogue between the countries of the region."
Herzog congratulated King Hamad on his "bold leadership and vision," expressing his appreciation for the King's contribution to "deepening peace, stability, and cooperation between our countries."
The Kingdom of Bahrain joined the Abraham Accords in September 2020, with the agreement facilitated by US President Donald Trump during his first term in office.
Bahrain has come under several Iranian missile and drone attacks in recent weeks, most recently on Friday, with the country's Interior Ministry urging citizens to remain calm and head to the nearest shelter upon each attack.
In Friday's case, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-linked Tasnim news agency reported that Iran had targeted an observation tower at the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
According to Tasnim, Amazon's data center in Bahrain was also struck in the attack.
Bahrainis angry at Iran for attacks
Bahraini residents, alongside Saudi and Jordanian residents, told N12 News on July 19 that Israel should renew strikes against Iran due to the Iranian attacks.
“Since Iran resumed launching missiles over the past week, the situation in Bahrain has been extremely tense,” Bahraini author and activist Fatima Al Harbi told N12.
“There is great concern about the escalation, because every additional missile or attack could affect the lives of innocent people in Bahrain and the Gulf states... in a way that could harm Bahrain's economic situation," she said. “Of course, there is great anger among the Bahraini people toward Iran, and all Bahrainis stand united behind Bahrain’s wise leadership, whether by volunteering for public service in every field or through prayers against our enemies.”
Bahrain, Kuwait reportedly attacked Iran in July
Bahrain and Kuwait responded to Iran's attacks by striking the Islamic regime with fighter jets earlier in July, according to a Wall Street Journal report on Friday citing sources familiar with the subject.
The sources told the WSJ that the airstrikes targeted Iranian drone and missile storage facilities, as well as other military sites.
According to the report, the two Gulf states were unwilling to allow Iranian attacks to continue without a response, leading to the reported airstrikes.
