A fireworks factory exploded in Malta on Monday morning, leading to no human deaths but serious property damage and the death of livestock in the area, Malta Today reported on Monday.

The explosion could be heard from several kilometers away and shattered windows across large portions of Malta.

Times of Malta reported that two men, aged 47 and 67, were hospitalized and treated for shock and light injuries.

The Ta' Lourdes factory, located in Maghtab, was in a zone designated for agriculture, a spokesperson from the MaYA (Malta Youth in Agriculture) Foundation stated, adding that most insurance companies would not compensate farmers for their lost livestock.

"Several breeders in the area suffered structural damage to their farms, and some animals also perished due to the blast, including birds, rabbits, and dairy cows," she said. "At the moment, farmers are doing all that is possible to mitigate the effects, and needless to say, they need support, both psychological and financial."

The same factory also exploded in 2018, Times of Malta reported at the time, leaving two people seriously injured and another four lightly injured.
