Software giant Microsoft is offering a voluntary retirement program to some 60,000 employees, Business Insider reported on Monday, based on statements by a company spokesperson. This represents about 27% of the company's workforce.
A source familiar with the details noted that the voluntary retirement offer is expected to impact core company divisions, including artificial intelligence experience development, Copilot, finance, human resources, Xbox, and Windows + Devices. However, the same source added that units such as marketing, commercial business, and security will be excluded from the program.
In a post published on its official blog, the company noted that the offer will be available to eligible employees in participating teams in Canada, India, the UK, and the US who are ranked at grade 70 and below.
Microsoft clarified that this is a time-limited voluntary program based on insights gained from a previous voluntary retirement program the company held.
